Every Marketing
101 textbook confirms that the best form of selling your product
is by word-of-mouth, especially if by those who have already benefited
from the product. How many education providers make arrangements
with their graduates to promote their institution? Particularly
overseas - where prospects are excellent and where graduating
students can enjoy a transcendent experience. See Parts IV &
VI http://www.bfranklin.edu/champions/champion.htm
FATHOM, the
for profit online-learning provider run by Columbia University,
has added scores of corporate-training courses to its academic
and cultural offerings. The move, involving four education companies,
is Fathom's latest change of direction in its troubled search
for customers and investors. http://chronicle.com/free/2002/02/2002020801u.htm
From the
Chronicle of Higher Education
"The State University of New York at Buffalo's School of
Management pulled the plug on its 18-month-old Web-based M.B.A.
program last week. The business school joins a growing list of
institutions that have concluded that online programs aren't worth
the expense and hassle."

The below came into my mailbox today, an offer from Harvard, which
is self explanatory. Except this
It has no signatory - sent by a Soviet Bureaucrat?
It has no telephone number - no human beings allowed?
It has no URL - for courses offered by distance means?
Ot demonstrates that even Harvard can't market worth a damn
I will discuss this more at the Conference. Meantime, let me
share it with you as it arrived on my desk.

Subject: Earn $$$ from WIDE World - Refer a Friend!
To: hibbs@bfranklin.eduWHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
WIDE World is launching an exciting, new "refer a friend"
program! This program is a terrific way for you to earn gift
certificates that can be used toward the purchase of books,
CDs, electronics, software, etc. from amazon.com. There is
no limit on the number of people you can refer, so you can
earn as many amazon.com gift certificates as you want!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Glad you asked! Wide World is providing $25 gift certificates
from amazon.com to anyone who refers a friend to WIDE World.
See below for rules and details.
WHAT ARE THE RULES?
Anyone who refers a friend to WIDE World between August 19
and September 6, 2002 will receive a $25 gift certificate
from amazon.com, provided that the person being referred has
completed a valid registration form and has never taken a
WIDE course before.
A registration is considered valid if the WIDE World registration
form has been completely filled out and payment has been received
by WIDE World by September 6, 2002 (payment can be made by
check, purchase order or credit card).
The "refer a friend" program applies only to new
registrations that occur between August 19 and September 6,
2002.
The person who is being referred to WIDE World must include
the first and last name, as well as the complete email address
of the person who referred them (this information can be provided
during the registration process, in the "payment"
section).
This offer can not be combined with other offers. If the person
being referred to WIDE is already receiving a group scholarship
or group discount from WIDE World, that person's registration
would not be eligible for the "refer a friend" program.
